The
Potentials Foundation is a wonderful organization that has
been put together by Elizabeth Hale, the mother of a young
child with Primordial Dwarfism. The Foundation's purpose
is to "enrich the lives of individuals with Primordial
Dwarfism by facilitating opportunities for families to meet,
providing for any adaptive or medical needs, and furthering
research efforts." If you or a family member are affected
by Primordial Dwarfism, you can sign up for the "Families
Only" section of the website, where you can ask questions
or swap ideas with others who have had similar circumstances.
The foundation also lends financial support to families
affected by PD in several ways, from helping with travel costs
for medical visits, to helping with adaptive or medical
equipment. In the future, the foundation may also act as a
clearinghouse for information on primordial dwarfism for both
the medical research community and affected families. We
highly recommend that all families affected by Primordial
Dwarfism register with the foundation.

One
of the many issues facing children with Primordial Dwarfism is
the loss of, or absence of adult teeth. In the past few years,
Dr. Stephen Riedy of Livonia, Michigan has performed
orthodontic surgery for two patients with MOPD II, and using a
combination of implants and dentures, has been able to
significantly improve both the appearance and function of his
patients teeth.
Dr.
Riedy can be contacted at his practice at:

Subject: The Painted Turtle Camp - Little People Session
Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2006
Dear Jackie,
I believe it was your daughter Hannah that was featured on a program I saw a few months ago about children with Primordial Dwarfism. I wanted to let you know that in 2007 we will again have a Skeletal Dysplasia Summer Camp Session. Our first experience was in 2006, when we had 75 children with dwarfism, including Primordial Dwarfism, for five wonderful days. The campers were amazing, and children and staff alike had a fantastic time.
I was touched by Hannah’s story, and wanted to let you know about this opportunity. I contacted the network, but they were unable to forward information to your family.
The Painted Turtle is a non-profit medical specialty camp in California that hosts children with a variety of conditions during summer sessions and Spring and Fall family weekends. There is no cost to attend The Painted Turtle – every child attends free.
Please let me know if you would like to receive more information and/or an application for Hannah to attend camp. You may also visit our web site at
